"We feel like this year was the biggest we've had in a long time," said festival committee chairwoman Deva Hair. "It was a lot of hard work, but it was well worth it."

Hair said the top notch entertainment, fair weather and the date added to the apple festival's success. The Bama Band's Saturday night performance, Blair Carman and the Belleview Boys' show and the Jon Russell concert headlined numerous other musicians on the festival's three stages.

The apple festival's entertainment continues to become more impressive each year and plans already are in the works for next year's shows.

The apple festival went strong until 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

While no one can be certain exactly how many folks took in the event, Family Home Health of Liberty distributed approximately 10,000 bottles of water to apple festival-goers trying to beat the heat.

Several new events kept those in attendance coming back night after night with a "Dancing With the Stars" competition, a city/county cornhole tournament, and the greasy apple contest.

Many new vendors and participants kept everyone entertained. But a few traditional favorites continued to showcase the best of the best of Casey County. The parade was the best in several years. There were more floats and stiffer competition.

400-plus vendor booths set up shop along the streets, more than ever before.

While the festival's success continued to climb this year, even more is planned for the 34th annual celebration in 2008. Next year is Liberty's 200th birthday and the apple festival hopes to work closely with the mayor and the city council to make it a possible theme and celebration for Liberty. It will be an event to remember.

Liberty was filled with good times, good friends and good food as the 33rd annual Casey County Apple Festival, September 15-22, transformed downtown into a hub of excitement and town pride.

The apple festival, in one of its most successful years to date, drew visitors from out-of-town and out-of-state with some new events and contests as well as a few old favorites.
